National Donut Day

It may come as a shock to learn that if I had to choose between cupcakes and donuts for the rest of my life, I would pick donuts. While I'm an advocate for both of these essential sweets, donuts truly take the cake. I'm rooting for a trendy comeback of donuts in all of their glazed goodness glory, but until then, the cupcake still rules. I haven't enjoyed a donut goodie since my trip to Hypnotic Donuts a few months ago, but this morning I spotted the last strawberry frosted with sprinkles donut in the staff lounge at work, and I simply couldn't resist. I later learned that today is National Donut Day! It must have been fate that this colorful creation ended up in my belly.

In doing a bit of research on the origins of this holiday, I learned that it was started by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor soldiers from World War I.

Does anyone know if this tradition continues anywhere? If I were alive during this time, I would have definitely wanted to be a donut girl. Cheers to our brave service people and Happy Donut Day!

Allison, you took the cake on this post! :) Although, I missed the official donut day - I will have to find one today in honor of all the donut girls and WWI vets. God Bless You & XOXO
