Goodbye Hostess, Hello Real Snacks!

By now you've probably heard the news that Hostess Brands, the maker of beloved Twinkies and Ding Dongs, is going out of business for good. It's a true shame to see such an iconic junk food maker go, but let's be honest, how many of us regularly enjoy ourselves a Twinkie? I will always hold a special place in my heart for Hostess goodies as Ding Dongs were a key component of the brown bag school lunches my dad used to pack for me. However, in the grand scheme of nostalgic junk food, I believe that Little Debbie truly has it going on when compared to Hostess. Twinkies and Ding Dongs have nothing on Nutty Bars and Swiss Rolls. So, although we are upset about Hostess, let's be thankful for what we do have and that's Little Debbie.

I'm adding Real Snacks by Lara Ferroni to my Christmas list so if there's anyone who wants to play Santa for me, take note. I promise to make you whatever nostalgic snack your little heart desires, like Twinkies or Doritos, without all of the processed junk. Each recipe in the book comes with gluten-free and vegan versions, too. This recipe book would be perfect for junk food lovers like me!

I thought Hostess made Swiss Rolls!!!...all day I thought to myself 'even though I probably haven't eaten one in a year, I will miss those.' Thanks for clarifying the classic processed junk food makers for me :)

I haven't had a Twinkie or Hostess Cupcake in years, but I am sad to see Hostess go for nostalgia value if nothing else. Funny, now that they are gone I would love to eat two or three this very minute!!
