Monday Motivation — Thumbs up for Rock 'n' Roll!
Since running my first half marathon in December, I've been on a bit of a runner's high. Internal competitiveness kicked itself into high gear and I've been striving for every run to be a bit better than the one before. Breaking a previous record doesn't always happen on each run, but whenever I get a new achievement on Nike+ or a badge on Smashrun, I get pretty fired up. If you received an alert telling you that you ran the length of Sweden, wouldn't you be pretty excited too?
Granted, it's not hard to constantly smash your personal bests when you start from the bottom and you're consistently follow a training program. I'll be the first to admit that I'm slower than molasses but I've recently been picking up the pace. In January, I joined the Dallas Running Club's training program to help me with my endurance and speed. I paced with the 2:30 half marathon group and had incredible support from our pace leader, George. I struggled though many of the tempo runs but I kicked hill running booty. After nearly three months of the crack-of-dawn Saturday mornings and tired Tuesday evenings, I'm proud to report I shaved off 13 minutes from my previous half marathon time at the Dallas Rock 'n' Roll this past weekend, finishing at 2:31:17 (11:33/mile). A big thank you to my cheerleaders along the way!
