Chicago — Yolk

If you're in Chicago and are craving diner-y breakfast food, consider Yolk. It's not a fancy-schmancy trendy brunch spot, but the cheery, sunny side up atmosphere makes it a nice no-frills, tasty breakfast spot (think fancy IHOP or First Watch). The coffee flows freely and the portions are hefty. The lengthy menu has all the standard breakfast fare and more, including some creative options like Red Velvet French Toast. How could I not go for that? I'm thankful I ordered just a half order because it's just as sweet as it sounds: velvet cake and swirls of cream cheese dipped in batter and grilled, topped with strawberries and whipped cream. Super sweet.
