The Meatball Shop

Brunch at a restaurant specializing in meatballs? You don't have to ask me twice.

The Meatball Shop has a handful of locations scattered around Manhattan and I believe that we found the one with the nicest bartender at the Chelsea location. The Meatball Shop's menu is a modern take on Italian classics (mostly of the meatball variety) but the restaurant's ambience has a retro vibe, and together those make for a great combination. We took up shop at the bar on a lazy Sunday to enjoy a meal before catching a matinee performance of Kinky Boots. Our bartender took good care of us keeping our peach bellinis flowing and topping off our meal with a champagne-infused Jell-O shot. Watch out, Broadway.

Most people like their meatballs on top of a heaping pile of pasta. Some like them on sub sandwiches. It's definitely rare to find meatballs on top of a salad, but The Meatball Shop pulls this one off quite nicely.

My "Everything But the Kitchen Sink Salad" was complete with three spicy pork meatballs served over greens and vegetables with classic tomato sauce. I went ahead and splurged and added the "family jewels" (a fried egg) on top. There's no name that could possibly be more fitting for this concoction, because it really did look like everything possible was thrown on (mushrooms! potatoes! carrots!), but it worked perfectly.
